You are just about to start your Home Improvement project. Your remodeling contractor notified you that the work will start soon. Are you prepared for the work to begin on your home addition, room addition, raised level also commonly called an Add a Level or even a kitchen renovation or bathroom renovation?
TIPS TO KEEP YOUR HOME CLEAN DURING CONSTRUCTION
Before your home improvement contractor begins remodeling, you want to make sure you have your home all set for the dust and contaminants that flow through the air. Get yourself ready by setting up the proper shielding in order to protect and minimize any potential hazards that lie ahead.Setting up barriers and applying protective shields also helps minimize cleanup after your remodeling is completed.
WHAT PART OF YOUR HOME NEEDS PROTECTION?
First off, figure out what part of your home will be affected by your remodeling project. If your are installing an addition in the rear of the home, then you are actually lucky. You can prepare only a small portion of your home which means less work for you.ARE YOU BUILDING A RAISED LEVEL?
Let's say you are remodeling your home and installing a new raised level or add a level. Many times this type of remodel project involves opening and removing walls on the 1st floor. Even installing new a new staircase is common so in this type of situation, the work will be spread out all around the interior of your home. That means obviously there is more to protect and cover.As a NJ Home Improvement Contractor specializing in home additions, room additions, raised levels and complete home renovations, I have showed up to my customers homes on day one only to find absolutely nothing protected. Other times, the home is protected from top to bottom.
Here are some tips to get your home prepared for the remodeling job ahead....
REMODELING: Protect the floors
If your home improvement project is going to affect most of your home, obviously you would want to remove as much of the contents as possible if not all of it. Many workers will be walking throughout your home. The very first thing you want to do is protect your floors. Floor protection can be achieved by applying surface shields. For rugs, you can apply a plastic roll out that has a one sided adhesive. Some of these plastic sheet protectors will last 30 - 45 days. For hardwood, you can apply similar plastic barriers but these will be a bit thicker with a slight cushion to then. Again, these will have a one sided adhesive. Many of these roll out plastic protectors can be used on tile floors as well. Once finished, they can easily be removed and discarded.MULTI USE SURFACE SHIELDS

PROTECT YOUR COUNTER TOPS
Don't forget to protect your stone counter tops. Both in the kitchen and the bathrooms.
REMODEL: Protect Protect Protect
Here's a great tip for you.If you are going to have traffic near your bathrooms, kitchens, or even on your deck, make sure you cover and protect it properly. For all of the above there are specific shields for each task need to protect.
Let's take the counter top's in either the kitchen, bathroom or both. You would want to install appropriate surface shield's offering protection especially on marble and granite countertops.
For your bathroom's, purchase tub liner's so they will cushion any item's that may fall and chip the enamel.

If you have large areas of tile, carpet, hardwood flooring, wood or composite decks or even a lemonade porch, there are other ways to protect these areas. Purchase and install into place protective sheeting. One great product to use is Ramboard. Ramboard is light and easy to roll out and place down. I use these many times when we are working at a site that has an existing deck, hardwood floors, tile floors, and cabinetry....etc.. We lay the protective Ramboard material down until the job is complete, then remove them. They can absorb a heavy impact well. Ramboard sheets can also protect doors, cabinet, walls and furniture.NJ HOME IMPROVEMENT CONTRACTOR: Install barriers
One of the best ways to protect your home improvement, whether it's a room addition, kitchen renovation or even a bathroom renovation is to install plastic barriers. A plastic barrier is a temporary wall made of plastic. Just recently, tools were made that make this a whole lot easier such as a zip wall. In minutes, you can create a barrier from floor to ceiling.On great way to use this system is to put all your belongings such as furniture into a room that isn't going to be used. Install the barrier around the furniture, encasing it in plastic. If you need to access the furniture, you can install a zip- zipper attachment to the plastic wall. when you need access, just unzip and go.
You can also use a barrier to block off one part of your home from the other. Works great especially for additions, home additions, raised levels and bathroom renovation remodeling projects.
