Molding
As a NJ Home Improvement Contractor, I can tell you that choosing the right molding for your home improvement project changes the look of your home drastically. Just by adding molding, your remodeling project will change the entire look of a room or rooms without changing the actual dimensions of  the room. Moldings come in many shapes and sizes. It is possible to add molding to your doors, windows, floor perimeters, ceilings or even walls. Purchasing and installing  moldings can be one of the smartest home improvement choices any homeowner can make when looking for ways to bring your rooms to life.
Trim-A Lost Art
Homes built long ago were created with grandiose molding schemes. If you have ever visited a home built before the 1950's or so, you understand what I am talking about. Where windows these days are trimmed with 4 pieces of molding, one for each side, back then a window was trimmed with between nine to thirteen pieces of moulding. Floors had minimum six inch base moulding, a 1 3/4" base cap and a 3/4" quarter round where the floor meets the 6" base. These days, you are lucky to have a 3 1/4" base molding.
This molding style was lost somewhere in the 1950's and molding became more simple. Gone were the chair moldings that brought to your rooms so much character. As it created a horizontal divider throughout any room it was in, many times the lower half was  a different color from the top half or one section had wall paper. Inside the lower half many people installed wainscoat  wall treatments which  could have been created in many different styles.
Wainscoting
Wainscoting moulding can bring any room to life. With it's many styles and design's, you can create so many different variations of patterns with wainscoting. The traditional style of creating the lower 1/3 of a wall with a wainscoting pattern, then the remainder of the upper wall can be painted of wallpapered. As you can see, wainscoting can make any room look amazing.

Door and Window Trim
Door and window trim has become a very important part of many remodeling. People are now removing old trim and replacing with new moulding assembly's with much more detail. The focus has shifted from the standard 2 1/4" window and door trim and the 3 1/4" floor trim. Homeowners are inquiring and requesting larger, wider more detailed moldings. Rightly so, since the look is much more appealing for all to see. Changing over and installing newer more  detailed moldings is not very complicated. As a NJ Home Improvement Contractor, we have removed and replaced moldings on thousands of windows and doors. People like the look of a room that is more detailed. Replacing and or installing from scratch, new door and window trim can really make your rooms stand out. The great thing about installing mouldings is that its's really not that complicated. With the assistance of a book or video, one can learn to trim very easily.
